Same tune, different story

Warning: Pathetic sob story ahead!

Yeah, I'm sad.
Again.
And of course...
it's because my fave five Beantown boys,
NKOTB,
are doing another awesome show
for their fans...
and I can't afford it!

Now, I have to back up for a second and say...
I don't regret the fact that I'm in graduate school.
I am pursuing my Master's in Secondary English Education.
Yes, I'm going to be a
high school English teacher.

And I couldn't be more excited about that!
I can't wait to
work with students and help them grow into
great readers, writers, and thinkers.

In fact, right now I'm student teaching!
I even taught my very first actual lesson yesterday!
It was amazing.
I can't wait to do more!

But... because I'm student teaching,
I have to really pinch pennies right now.
See, I don't get paid to student teach.
Besides that,
I have to student teach all day, every day...
So I had to quit my full-time job.

Again, I'm not trying to make you feel sorry for me.
Just venting!

And also, of course...
Trying to think of a creative way to get to NYC
on June 18, 2010
to see my boys play Radio City Music Hall!

Maybe another Jordan contest?!

Or maybe, finally, DANNY will do a contest!

(Yeah, that's me LAST JUNE in ATL with Danny!)

Or maybe Ellen will finally answer all my cries for help...
and maybe she won't only send me to see NKOTB...
Maybe she'll actually go with me!

So, this is me....
dancing in the aisles at Radio City...
with Ellen.
(Just imagine the music in the background is
Summertime or Dirty Dancing or something...
Or maybe even old school....
Hangin' Tough!)
Enjoy!

I can't deny it... I still wish I could CRUISE!

Yes, it's true.
I'm not going on the NKOTB Cruise...
AGAIN.

Why?

Well, for one, I've got about
A MILLION AND A HALF
things going on right now.

But on an even larger scale...
I have to be a responsible adult
(boo.... hiss...)
and save money right now!

See, I'm in grad school majoring in
7-12 education.
As my final requirement to
graduate and become certified,
I have to student teach.
For free.
For 18 weeks.
5 days a week. 8 hours a day.

Now, I'm not asking for pity.
I am excited about
becoming a teacher,
and FINALLY
starting my career.

But I was just hoping...
Using "The Secret,"
or "the power of positive thinking,"
or whatever you'd like to call it...
that somehow,
I'd end up on that cruise ship this year!

And what's worse,
Several of my fellow Blockhead friends
are going!

So, not only am I missing a whole weekend
with my favorite 5 bad boys from Beantown,
but also with several girlfriends
that I never get to see!

I wish Ellen would make me do some
stupid human trick,
like wear a sumo suit and
hum my ABC's while
eating peanut butter...
or something.

I'd even work for it!
I'll be the "special fan commentator"
for Ellen!

Or, I can be the opening act...
I'll bring my middle school dance team!

I can even be the
"official SS NKOTB onboard personal trainer."

Or teach group fitness classes to
Hangin' Tough!

I'd really do just about anything...
Sigh.

Ok, that's my sob story for the day.

Thanks for listening!

Jordan is following ME!

Sorry.
This will be short but sweet.
But today, I got this notice in my e-mail inbox.

Hi, Christy80.

Jordan Knight (jordanknight) is now following your tweets on Twitter.

A little information about Jordan Knight:

55323 followers
1651 tweets
following 97 people
Now, I must say...
I've been trying to figure out how to get him to follow me for days.
I made up silly songs for him.

I dressed my dog in my Jordan Knight circa 1989 t-shirt
(and honestly, she really did like it)

I did a slew of other things
that are probably too embarrassing to mention.

But what finally did it...
Was asking Ellen DeGeneres to follow Jordan
and have him on her show!

So, in a roundabout way,
Ellen actually did help me get through to NKOTB,
like I've been asking her to do for so long!

SO....
I've got a renewed sense of HOPE and CONFIDENCE...

Ellen!
Mrs. DeGeneres!
I am not giving up.
I still have faith that somehow, someway...
you are going to get my girl Leslie and I
on SS NKOTB
in 2010!

We'll be 30 this year.
A year of renewal...
rebirth.
What better way to celebrate than
with our childhood idols?!

The Block is Back in 2009.

And
You Can't STOP the Block
in 2010!

O-O-O-O-O! A-ha!

So, I've almost been
TOO BUSY
lately to remember that
Leslie and I are
missing another NKOTB cruise
in a few months!
(Sadness.)

And today I remembered.
Even more sadness.

And then...
I had an
A-ha moment!

You see,
we tried reaching out to
all sorts of people....

We wrote lots of e-mails & blogs,
and even sent
videos and mail to
Ellen DeGeneres.

We wrote to
Ryan Seacrest.
We e-mailed & Tweeted the ladies of The View
(Sherri Shepherd even Tweeted me back...
but didn't send us cruisin'.)

And of course we hit up
Regis and Kelly!

But we should've known all along...
That we should also hit up OPRAH!

(Not that we hadn't thought of it...
I just don't think we thought of
going for the gusto!
But alas... no mountain is too small!)

I mean, the guys
(NKOTB... Danny, Donnie, Joey, Jon, & Jordan, that is)
say "O-O-O" in half their songs...
IT'S A SIGN!!!!

Think about it....
"O-o-o-o-o, Hangin' Tough!"
and
"O-o, o-o-o... The Right Stuff!"

O-O-O... OPRAH!

So, today I sent an e-mail to Oprah Winfrey
(who, by the way, just sent two women on a
Rose Tours cruise with Rick Springfield...
yet another sign)...
and now...
I will dance with her.
And hope she sees it, loves it, and says,
"I simply MUST meet this girl!"

(And of course... since we're both Tennessee girls...
we will dance a hoedown!)

Ellen... Can you hear me?

Dear Ellen... Mrs. DeGeneres, if you prefer.
I never heard from you the last time,
so this time I'm starting REALLY early.

Persistent?
Yes.
Obsessive?
Maybe.
A little bit CRAZY?
Quite possibly.

So, if you don't know to what I am referring...
Let's take a little trip back in time.
A time when this blog was just a baby.
A fledgling little compendium of my
random thoughts, feelings, opinions...
that would soon turn into something
much, much bigger
than even I could've ever imagined.

See, Ellen, back on January 14, 2009,
we first made our plea to you on this blog
to help us get aboard the cruise with NKOTB.

In the next days, weeks, and months that followed...
we didn't let up.
From the sweet e-mails our families and friends sent to you on our behalf
Our own fabricated breakdances starring YOU and us...

Try JibJab Sendables® eCards today!

And even trying to get through to Jimmy Fallon and
Ryan Seacrest
Try JibJab Sendables® eCards today!

to help YOU help US...
We never heard anything!

Now, since we believe in
the power of positive thinking...
We are quite certain that you
didn't deliberately snub us.

But maybe...
That we just started our campaign too late in the game!

So this time around, we are being more proactive about things.
The 2010 cruise isn't even officially announced yet!
(But, it has been confirmed that www.rosetours.com is in talks of
putting it on again this go around... Just sayin'.)

Now, I did send you a package in the mail as well...
Containing the "greatest hits" of this blog.

And I even danced for you in "my favorite pair of boxers"
(a line from NKOTB's Two in the Morning)
... a pair of Ellen boxers purchased specifically for
the making of said video.

video

So, as you can see...
there are no lengths we won't travel
to reach for what we want...
to cruise with NKOTB!

We are thinking it would be a great segment for your show, too.
Lots of NKOTB fans are also Ellen fans.
We would do GREAT commentary aboard the ship!

And now, we are hoping...
with the help of all of our
FELLOW BLOCKHEADS
that we've met on these crazy adventures of ours, like
EJ, who gave us tips on cruise etiquette in
and Desiree, who wrote about our adventures
(and, I might add, how persistence and positive thinking CAN pay off...
we got to meet a few of the boys in Atlanta!)
our new friend Kristie, who also
wrote about her ATL adventures...
our good friends over at their own blog,
the In Search of NKOTB girls (Holly & Kerry),
who have been to over 16 shows this tour

And let's also not forget the power of
Which recently helped yours truly have a little
tête à tête
with the one and only Joey McIntyre himself!

All I'm sayin' is...
It's on, Ellen.
Remember George Watch '08?
That ain't got nothin' on
The Block Don't Stop in 2010!
(aka Operation Let's Get this, Part Deux)

Happy Birthday to Jordan!

So, even though I've more recently been boarding
the Danny Train,
I still hold a special place in my heart for my
first true love (haha!),
Mr. Jordan Knight!

So, let's take a moment to celebrate
the birth of this sexy man
on May 17, 1970!
Happy Birthday, Jordan!

We know you're livin' it up on the
S.S. NKOTB
with thousands of crazed fans,
so we know you'll have a great party!

But for those of us that
weren't lucky enough to go cruisin',
(it's ok, Ellen, I ain't mad atcha...
but I'm still hoping you can help us in some way... hint, hint)
let's all take a moment to
give Mr. Knight some birthday love!

You guys did great with the comments for Danny,
(and I hope some of you took the time to give to Komen in his honor)
so how about we do the same for Jordan?!
So, please leave your birthday comments for Jordan
on this blog!

Happy Birthday, Jordan!

P.S. To Jordan, or any of the other Grown Men on the Block
that might be reading this right now,
my friend Leslie and I are planning on being
at the Hotlanta show on June 4,
and though we can't afford 5 star, are DYING for some Face Time in '09
See below to help you find us in the crowd.
Thank you! :)
(In case you can't see, that says "We want FACE TIME!
Right where our seats are located.
And in case you can't tell exactly where THAT is...
Section 103, Row T.
Look for us, boys!)

I've got the NKOTB canceled the only show I was going to BLUES....

I just got home from work.
So, I take a Twitter break before getting into my
Jillian Michaels workout DVD,
and notice that my fellow BLOCKHEADS are all abuzz...

What's this? I thought.
What's going on?
Maybe an exciting new contest! Yippee!

But alas, it was not.
It was not happy news at all.
Not even in the slightest.

You see, apparently today, while I was
working hard for the money (so hard for it, honey),
NKOTB.com put up an announcement that
the first week of concerts were all canceled!

Yes, that includes Birmingham, AL.
The only show we bought tickets to.

And now, any others we might consider
1) are really far away
2) are on the wrong day of the week and we can't get off work
or
3) are completely sold out.

I am devastated.
(See how SAD I am?!)

I'm hoping the NKOTB gods (or Ellen, if she's out there)
will shine down on us and help us through this!

Somebody?
Anybody?
As the blog says...
Hello... Is this thing on?
Hello?

Sigh.
Sadness.

So... Jordan snubbed me. Sadness.

So, this is really stream of consciousness right now,
and I'm probably gonna wake up tomorrow morning and say...

WHOA! What crazy train wrote all that?!

But alas... I continue.

So, the contest was not my destiny. Or Leslie's.

It was a girl named Tatiana. And I'm sure she deserves it.
And I hope she has the best time of her life.

But... I am a girl. I am HORRIBLY JEALOUS!

More than that, though, I am sad.

Leslie has really been working with me on this positive thinking thing.
I'm usually pretty positive, but sometimes perhaps a bit too realistic for my own good.

So, when Ellen never came through for us...
I was like,
Yeah, I guess that's how it's gonna be. (sigh)

And then this contest came up and were like...
HECK YEAH!
This is our second shot!
This is destiny saying,
It's not over for you girls! We had something else planned... See?!

But it didn't happen for us.
It's so sad! I'm not trying to paint a
"poor little me" picture.

I'm dramatic, but not a liar.

But really, we have built this up so much...
and worked so hard on the blog, the e-mails to Ellen, the tweets, the twits, the nkotb.com posts, the e-mails to Fallon, Seacrest, The View...

We have been on a FOR REAL campaign!
Operation Let's Get This!
Operation Let's Twit it til we GET IT!
And then...
Nothing.

(Seriously.  At times I thought we should have Don't Stop Believin' playing in our background.)

So, I'm gonna try not to lose hope. But it's so hard!

NKOTB have made me feel like a teenager again.

And now I feel even more like a teenager...

Except this time, I'm the one that
didn't get asked to prom and had to take her brother.

Except I don't have a brother. Suck.

But I do need to tell you one thing about the buildup that Mr. Jordan Knight created for me...

He said...

She was born in the 80s....

And she's a Jordan's girl!

Wager a guess at my nkotb.com screenname?!

Jordan'sGirl80

Yeah, that really sucked.

So, Jordan... And Jon, Donnie, Danny, and Joey...
Please know that I am sad, but I still love you.
Heck, I've loved you for over 20 years
I'm not a fairweather fan!

I'm just really hoping that you will read this, and somehow, someway, Leslie and I will get to meet you like we have been trying to for months now...

And not because you feel sorry for us.
Or because you think you should for "good PR."

But because we're honestly good, genuine people, and we really are
BLOCKHEADS!

And because you seem like cool guys, who want to thank their fans...
And we are two fans that haven't gotten to meet and thank you yet.
(Though we've been trying our damndest to be resourceful and creative to get to do so!)

So, if you're in Tennessee
and you wanna meet up at the Waffle House or Cracker Barrel,
or heck, come into our own kitchens
for a nice home-cooked meal
(or pot of coffee... Jon....
or protein shake... Danny)
We're your girls.

Not because we're crazy fans who want to steal a lock of your hair.
And not because we are delusional and think we're the only fans that you've got.
But because we are real, just like you.

Alright. Stepping off the soapbox.

And remember...
I'll STILL be lovin' you forever...
(even if we didn't win the trip to NYC!)

This one's for you, Jordan.... ah ah ah ah

(So... you should know before you start reading that the title of this is me singing...
to the tune of "This One's For the Children.")

Ok, so yesterday, I had a VERY long day. Well, I've had a VERY long few days, really.
But yesterday in particular... was ridiculous.
I worked for at LEAST nine hours straight to finish a
final project for a class and get it in by 5pm.
(In fact, as I was leaving the professor's office from turning it in,
the 5 o'clock chimes were going off across campus!)

This grad school thing is HARD... but I'm sure it will be worth it!
Teaching kids and making a difference in their lives is definitely going to be worth it!
(Ohhh... and that ALSO goes with "This One's For the Children."
The planets must be lining up for me today or something... hahahahahaha!)

Anyway, back to Jordan.
(Don't most good things go back to Jordan?!)
In fact, let's pause a moment just to check him out for a second....

Wow.
Ok, now I have to take a moment to collect myself... Whew!

Ok, so this morning, I checked my cute little Blackberry as I woke up.

(You should know that most mornings, I check my Blackberry
and there are already at least five new e-mails from work.)
But this morning was different!

Since I have @jordanknight's Twitter updates sent to my phone...
I was very excited to see what he had sent while I was off in dreamland last night!

Jordan said,
"Sneak peak at the Full Service Tour next Friday on the Today Show.
Don't just watch... get down there. We need you there.
I need you there!!
Donnie's buying show tickets for people there,
I will buy plane tickets for those who can't get there. Who wants to come?!!!"

Ok, Jordan...
at the risk of sounding like a small, sugar rushing child...
OHH! OHH! PICK ME! PICK ME! PLEASE!?

And just in case you need some reasons...
let me hook you up.

Top 10 Reasons Jordan Knight should send me
(and my girl Leslie)
to the Today Show to see NKOTB perform LIVE

1. We have been trying since January to get Ellen Degeneres
(and a few others... Seacrest, Fallon, Regis & Kelly, The View...)
to help us meet NKOTB... and it hasn't happened yet.

2. Jordan, since 1986, I've been a tried-and-true fan
That's 23 years of lovin' me some NKOTB!

3. You've always been my favorite. Really. I'm not just saying that.
Look @ how much my husband resembles you (below)...
and check the post I wrote about you!
4. I'm in grad school to be a teacher. My friend Leslie is a teacher.
We are both just finishing up the semester and could use a break! Perfect timing.

5. I'm a dancer. I know all your dance moves. So, if you send me to the Today Show, it's like having a FREE understudy right there in the crowd. C'mon, Jordan. That's just SMART.
Check out my moves.
(Below: Me, after the Nashville concert, with my sign from the show...
I originally sent it to Ellen as part of our CAMPAIGN.
Yes, I know it's backward..
it's because my Mac does a mirror image when it films and I don't know how to switch it!)

video

6. As evidenced by that up there ^.... I'd do just about anything to meet you guys!

7. I have several friends that live in NYC.
So, if you help us get there and to the show, room & board is completely under control!

8. We can't afford the cruise. We can't afford 5*.
Not to sound all "woe is us..." but we really would appreciate the assistance!

9. I've dreamed of being a backup dancer for NKOTB since I was a small child.
In fact, check this out: NKOTB released the first album in 1986. I started dance lessons in 1987.
Coincidence? Yeah, I don't think so.

10. On a serious note... We are your biggest fans in Tennessee. I promise.
We are not crazed lunatics, but humble, grateful fans.
You have brought us back a nostalgic part of our lives that we had let work, school, family, mortgages, etc. help us forget.
Beyond just wanting to meet you guys because
we have loved you more than a fat kids loves cake for over 20 years...
We want to meet you so we can THANK YOU for coming back!

Ok, Jordan. If you need more reasons, I've got them.
But I know you're a busy guy, and I didn't want to bog you down with
"Christy's top 2,472 reasons."

Thanks for listening!
